About The Scholarship 

The National Organizing Committee of the IAU GA2024 intends to award qualified African applicants with high-impact “Astronomy in Africa” scholarships that are in line with the hosting of this historic event. Starting in 2023, the financial aid positions will enable exceptional candidates to pursue a two-year Master of Science (MSc) degree in South Africa. They will pay for international tuition, one international round-trip flight, visa fees, health insurance, housing, and a stipend. Additionally, the chance to serve at the General Assembly 2024 which will benefit the scholarship recipients and give them a chance to network with other members of the international astronomy community.

Eligibility

  • Scholarships for Astronomy in Africa are open to applicants from any African nation.
  • Applicants must be qualified to enroll in an MSc program in an astronomy/astrophysics-focused university in South Africa.
  • A letter of recommendation for the candidate from a potential supervisor is required, and it must include a brief description of the planned research project
  • Candidates are required to have communicated with potential supervisors at reputable South African universities.

How To Apply

  1. To get started, you must fill out an online application form. A few fundamental details and the contact information of one reference letter writer. With your name in the subject line, your reference letter author should send their letter straight to info@astronomy2024.org.
  2. You must then provide a copy of your most recent academic transcripts and your undergraduate degree certificate. A 2-page CV in 12-point type must also be uploaded. You must also include a motivation statement note with your application.
  3. A letter of recommendation from the candidate’s potential supervisor is also required. This letter should describe the project in detail and explain how the candidate’s research interests align with those of the Supervisor.

Benefits Of The Scholarship 

The Africa 2024 Financial Aid will pay the student’s foreign tuition, one international round-trip ticket, visa fees, health insurance, housing, and a stipend.
