Benefits of the Scholarship

1. Five or six Academy Scholars are awarded a two-year in-residence appointment with an annual salary of $75,000 each.
2. This stipend covers travel expenses for conferences and research trips, research assistants, and health insurance.
3. Some instruction is allowed but not necessary.

Scholarship Eligibility

The following list outlines the requirements for the scholarship
1. English is the compulsory study language.
2. Harvard University accepts applications for scholarships from students worldwide.
3. These awards are open to PhD candidates in the social sciences as well as holders of equivalent doctorates who are within two years of the program’s start date of August 1, 2023.
4. For a start date of August 1, 2024, candidates who are nearly finished with their dissertations must be able to submit degree conferral papers from their university’s registrar’s office by June 30, 2024. Candidates who currently have or have in the past held a Harvard postdoctoral fellowship are ineligible.

2. Three letters of recommendation
3. A copy of the transcript from your doctoral programme
4. Research proposal (maximum of 2500 words) outlines intended disciplinary and methodological activities as well as intellectual goals.
5. A brief cover letter outlining the applicant’s academic subject, nation or area of specialisation, and intended research subject.
6. Electronic PDF copies of all application materials, including the three letters of recommendation, are uploaded.
