The Gates Cambridge UK Fully Funded Scholarships For International Students
Gates Cambridge awards around 80 full-fee scholarships year to deserving non-UK students who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree in any field offered by the University of Cambridge. There will be about 25 awards available in the US round and 55 awards available in the international round, with about two-thirds of these awards going to PhD candidates.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave the University of Cambridge a donation of US$210 million in October 2000, making it the largest single gift ever made to a UK university. This donation launched the Gates Cambridge Scholarship program. And In October 2001, the first group of scholars moved in.

Criteria For Selection
The criteria for selection are:

- Exceptional mental capacity
- Explanations for the course or choice
The goal of Gates Cambridge is to create an international network of future leaders dedicated to enhancing the lives of others. This purpose will be accomplished by choosing exceptional scholars, offering them financial and non-financial assistance at one of the top institutions in the world, and promoting community building within and beyond of Cambridge.
Gates Cambridge Scholarship Funding
Gates Cambridge Scholarship pays the entire cost of attending Cambridge University. It also offers discretionary funding that is extra.

- For complete information on specific costs, applicants should consult the Graduate Studies prospectus. The University Composition Fee varies for different types of students and the Trust will not cover fees io a student who has been successful in obtaining a fee award from public agencies (such as the UKRI).
- the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate : a maintenance allowance for a single student (£18,744 for 12 months at the 2022-23 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD scholars the award is for up to 4 years
- one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course
- inbound visa costs & the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge
Optional Components
The Trust additionally accepts applications for a variety of extra funds on a discretionary basis:
- Hardship funding – for unforeseen difficulties facing the scholar
- Maternity/Paternity funding – If necessary, you may apply to pause your studies for up to six months while still receiving your maintenance stipend.
- Fieldwork – While conducting fieldwork for your PhD, you can request to maintain your standard maintenance allowance (the Trust does not fund other fieldwork costs as these should be funded by the University Composition Fee).
- Academic development funding – Depending on the length of your course, you may receive up to £2,000 to attend conferences and seminars.
- Family allowance – for one child, up to £10,944; for two or more children, up to £15,612 (2022-23 rate). A partner is not given any funding.
Note : The Trust maintains the right to lower or not pay the regular maintenance stipend if you are receiving a salary from a job or another sizable scholarship. If you get funding for your Cambridge degree, please notify the Trust as soon as possible

* Gates Cambridge is testing a program that enables candidates to seek for funding for a part-time PhD degree for enrollment in October 2023
Are You Currently A Student In Cambridge?
If you are currently studying at Cambridge and wish to apply for a new postgraduate course you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. For example, if you are currently studying for an MPhil you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD. Current Gates Cambridge Scholars may also apply for a second scholarship if they are applying for a new degree. All current Cambridge students will be considered the second, international round. However, if you have already started a course (e.g. you are currently part way through a PhD) you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to fund the remainder of it.
You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are a current Cambridge student who wants to enroll in a new postgraduate program. For instance, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD if you are currently pursuing an MPhil. Current Gates Cambridge Scholars who are pursuing a new degree may also apply for a second scholarship. In the second worldwide round, all current Cambridge students will be taken into consideration. However, you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pay for the remaining portion of a degree that you have already begun (for example, if you are halfway through a PhD).

- Graduate Course in Medicine (A101)
- Part-time degrees other than the PhD
- Non-degree courses
- PGCE
- MBBChir Clinical Studies
- MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time, Home students only)
- Master of Business (MBA)
- Master of Finance (MFin)
- MASt courses
- Any Undergraduate degree, such as BA (undergraduate) or BA affiliated (a second BA)
- Business Doctorate (BusD)
Gates Cambridge Scholarship Application Process
Candidates are to submit their applications for admission and financial aid (including Gates Cambridge and other funds) through the university’s Graduate Application Portal.
You must fill out both the Gates Cambridge portion of the funding section and the form to apply for admission to a course and a college place in order to be eligible for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship. When evaluating applicants, Gates Cambridge has access to the whole admission and grant application.
